A winter of Black and White.

The cold weather (sub-zero temperatures) really lends itself to stretch the post processing muscles a little. This time, instead of doing a bland "average" gradient map conversion, I actually used Adobe Camera Raw's black and white conversion tool, and played with the color sliders a little until my model's skin tones looked 'right'. It's a little more work, but I feel it was worth it.

As usually, you be the judge! I really liked the way this particular photo converted.

365/170 Bugs/7

Much better, so to make up for yesterday, I'm posting a bunch! Settings were variable, but needless to say, i shot at a smaller aperture, between ƒ5.6 and ƒ/8, high shutter speed and a high ISO.

365/155 Negative Space/6

Nothing special today, it was simply too late to "snap" one of Kiddo, so the closest flower is  next on the list. This was al that was in the yard, so it's what you'll be looking at for the next few seconds.

Lens and camera settings:
50mm ƒ/2.0 @ ƒ/2.0, 1/200sec and ISO 400.

365/154 Negative Space/5

One more shot of Kiddo for the road, yes, a head shot, yes B&W, again... I just love the light, and it's definitely negative space so here it is:

Lens and camera settings:
50mm ƒ/2.0 @ ƒ/2.0, 1/125sec and ISO 800.

365/153 Negative Space/4

We went to the beach at Lake George today (a beautiful lake in New York), and I tried all day to get a nice shot of the kiddo, until I stopped trying and accidentally ran into this:

Lens and camera settings:
14-54mm ƒ/2.8-3.5 II @ 54mm, ƒ/4.0, 1/320sec and ISO 100.
Enjoying a day at the beach at Lake George!

14-54mm ƒ/2.8-3.5 II @ 54mm, ƒ4.0, 1/1600sec and ISO 100.

And a bonus shot, of the kid about to do something bad:
14-54mm ƒ/2.8-3.5 II @ 54mm, ƒ4.0, 1/1600sec and ISO 100.
"You're going to get it! Well I warned you!"

365/152 Negative Space/3

Not such a good day today, and while my photo is technically correct, meaning, Rule of Thirds followed, theme elements included and exposure perfect, there's no "soul" to it, no emotion. My wife on the other hand hand nothing but her Samsung Rogue at her disposal, and she took something much more interesting!

365/151 Negative Space/2

I decided to play a little with low key photography, and I think it looks interesting! Definitely worth exploring more, maybe with a more cooperative model.

Lens and camera settings:
14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 II @ 14mm, f/13, 1/250sec and ISO 100. Flash @ 1/2 power fired into umbrella.
